Root & Branch presents UBIK

Sample-heavy house from the West Coast

Dave Aju joins a growing group of human beatboxers making astonishingly good dance music with nothing but their mouth. Packing his brand-new second album Heirlooms, the San Francisco scenester arrives for the latest installment of Root & Branch’s respected UBIK parties. Working at his own pace, Aju (real name Marc Barrite) has gradually come to be a respected figure in the laid-back minimal West Coast house scene. His first release Open Wide was championed by British sampling wunderkind Matthew Herbert, and Heirlooms looks to push the envelope of cosmic minimal-funk with vocal sampling fleshed out by recordings and instruments inherited from his late, sax-playing father.

Eleven, Jun 8 (listing).
