Now in its 178th season, the Leningrad State Ballet has become a regular visitor to Japan over the past few decades, entertaining some 700,000 music lovers since its first trip in 1981. For its 30th tour—complete with orchestra in tow—the company will be giving local fans a special treat, as artistic advisor Farouk Ruzimatov mounts the stage for Swan Lake, Giselle and Don Quixote. At 47, the unusually long-limbed Uzbek native still possesses a grace and élan that puts younger dancers to shame. The company will also be performing the other two of Tchaikovsky’s Big Three, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty.
