Catch one of the Japanese theater world’s brightest young lights when Chelfitsch kicks off the International Arts Festival in Kanagawa with a premiere of its new work, The Sonic Life of a Giant Tortoise. Since debuting in 2001 with Their Hopes, Toshiki Okada’s company has raised eyebrows with its use of exaggerated gestures and a choreographic approach to theater. The new work, says Okada, depicts a typical Tokyo couple who seem to have it all—except happiness.
