Hula performance at FUN! ALOHA! in Yokohama 2026

FUN! ALOHA! Hawaiian Festival in Yokohama 2026

Jul 17, 2026 at 3:00pm ~ Jul 20, 2026 at 6:00pm

FUN! ALOHA! in Yokohama 2026 turns the Red Brick Warehouse into a stretch of island life for four days. Hula dancers move across an outdoor stage as the harbor catches the evening light. Ukulele groups play through sets of pop and Hawaiian standards. Food trucks send the smell of poke and loco moco drifting across the plaza. Aloha shirts and beachwear fill the vendor stalls nearby.

FUN! ALOHA! in Yokohama 2026: Hula and Ukulele Lineup

The lineup leans on real hula tradition. Hālau ʻŌlapakūikalaʻi ʻO Hōkūaulani travels from its home base in Kāneʻohe on Oʻahu. There, Kumu Hula Hōkūaulani Nihipali teaches Hawaiian culture alongside dance. Hālau Nā Lei Punahele Iāpana studies under Kumu Hula Punahele Andrade of Hawaii Island. The group performs and competes around that traditional style. Hālau Ka Lei Aloha o Makaleʻa has run classes near Yokohama Station for 18 years. It continues to teach the style of Kumu Hula Leinaʻala Pavao Jardin in Japan.

Local groups round out the program. Hālau Na ulu i ka pai o ka Maile, based in Ota Ward, marks its 15th anniversary this year. Its dancers range from age three to their seventies. The group also runs charity concerts that support children’s cafeterias in the community. Toys Ukulele Gakudan formed in 2008, made up of students from a Shibuya ukulele school. The group performs pop and Hawaiian songs arranged across three-part ensembles.

Yokohama and Hawaii’s 140-Year History Behind The Festival

The event also carries a piece of real history. Hawaiian King Kalākaua landed at Yokohama Port in 1881 during a trip around the world. Ships carrying Japanese emigrants later left the same port for Hawaii for decades after. FUN! ALOHA! in Yokohama launched in 2024 to build on that 140-year connection. The Red Brick Warehouse setting puts the festival steps from the same harbor where it began.
