Fusing tap dance and classical music may not constitute a revolution (Savion Glover’s been there, done that), but the meeting of tap phenom Kazunori Kumagai and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra still promises to be entertaining. Dubbed “Japan’s Gregory Hines,” Kumagai burnished his credentials in New York and has previously faced off against musicians like DJ Krush. Developed in conjunction with Tokyo Philharmonic conductor Kenichi Nakagawa, the program runs the gamut from the baroque classicism of Bach to the demanding futurism of Shostakovich to the more tap-friendly grooves of Duke Ellington.
