Dutch photographer Lucienne van der Mijle is something of a Japan specialist: her work focuses heavily on local nature, culture and performing arts, and her recent book, Setsuna—Fleeting Instant, featured well-known percussion group Yamato. The photographer’s new show, “Fading Borders,” offers a series of dual portraits of Dutch-Japanese couples. By considering how two worlds have “melted together,” van der Mijle proposes that mixed relationships are animated by “an apparent contrast that creates fascination and inspiration.”
