Tokyo’s increasingly crowded ranks of art fairs just got a bit more packed. Tokyo Frontline debuts this weekend at 3331 Arts Chiyoda, a new-ish venue housed in a former junior high school, under the direction of Kyoto University professor Shigeo Goto. What sets the festival apart is that, instead of simply having galleries rent booths, it offers expert-curated exhibitions of emerging Japanese and Asian artists. It’s the first of several upcoming events in a series entitled “Spring of Art in Tokyo,” which also includes Roppongi Art Night and Art Fair Tokyo.
