Ever since Vincent van Gogh came under the spell of Japanese ukiyo-e, cross-cultural fertilization between the East and West has been a continuing theme of printmaking. “Hemispheres” at the Canadian Embassy’s spacious Prince Takamado Gallery presents the works of a dozen or more Canadian and Japanese artists exploring new avenues for the ancient art form. In addition to the venerable woodblock, the show exhibits prints created using the latest digital techniques, offering viewers an opportunity to examine artworks created in two different nations and diverse cultural contexts.
